Our People in Action: Taylor Mecsko

A Day in the Life of Taylor Mecsko

Meet Taylor Mecsko: General Foreman at NTI

Taylor serves as a General Foreman on the Cedar Rapids (CDR) campus buildout, bringing valuable experience to the project. Since joining the Atlanta team in 2022, he has continued to expand his impact, transitioning to the Hyperscale division last year and now supporting operations in Iowa.

"My job is to know everything about everything related to our install, our technicians, and our schedule."

Taylor plays a key role in the Technology Fit-Out (TFO) phase of large-scale data center builds, supporting the infrastructure that powers client connectivity. With experience spanning cable tray installation, cabling, bonding, large-count fiber splicing, DAS/WAP deployments, and access control systems, Taylor helps deliver complex technology solutions inside mission-critical environments. Serving as a central information hub, Taylor coordinates daily with field technicians, project managers, general contractors, subject matter experts, and clients to keep installations on track, schedules aligned, and teams informed. In short, if it's happening on the project, Taylor knows about it.

Taylor's Journey to General Foreman at NTI

Taylor’s path into the role started through a surprisingly indirect connection. After hearing that he was looking for a new opportunity, a friend of a friend helped connect him with upcoming work in Atlanta. Going in, Taylor wasn’t sure what to expect. Based on the company website, he thought the job might involve climbing cell towers, something he was willing to try despite being afraid of heights. To his relief, he soon learned the work centered around data centers instead, opening the door to a career in data center infrastructure and technology fit-outs.

"I have a background managing car washes and welding. Those are two random things that don’t seem like they’d apply, but the car wash work taught me the value in staying proactive and catching problems before they come up, and the welding work taught me how to read technical drawings, how to work with precision, and the permanence of our work once it leaves our hands, " he says.

Contributors to Success in the Construction Field

Taylor’s success in the construction field is driven by his patience, decisiveness, and commitment to being well-informed. He understands that managing complex projects with many moving parts requires persistence and the ability to keep teams aligned toward a common goal.

“If you can’t be confident in your information, you’ll be paralyzed when it comes time to decide," he explains.

By taking the time to thoroughly educate himself before weighing in on a subject, he builds confidence in his decisions and provides clear direction when it matters most.

What Taylor's Typical Workday Looks Like

Taylor’s workday starts early, as he begins each morning by reviewing priorities and objectives for the day ahead. He then leads the daily crew assignment and planning process to ensure everyone is aligned and prepared for their responsibilities. Throughout the day, he focuses on identifying and resolving the team’s biggest challenges, coordinating drawings, materials, and task assignments for upcoming work, and conducting quality assurance and quality control checks on active projects. He is also constantly looking for opportunities to improve efficiency and streamline installation processes. Taylor views his role as "clearing the runway" for his team, proactively removing obstacles and ensuring they have everything they need to execute their work smoothly and successfully.

The Best Parts About Being a General Foreman

Taylor’s favorite part of being a General Foreman is working alongside his crew. He takes particular pride in the strong team culture they have built, noting that many crew members expressed interest in joining the team before it was even officially established. To Taylor, that enthusiasm reflects the trust, camaraderie, and positive work environment the team has created together, making their success especially rewarding.

Life Beyond the Job

When he’s not leading projects at work, Taylor spends much of his time with his wife and their newborn, enjoying the rewarding experience of becoming a new parent. He is also an avid racing enthusiast, with interests ranging from sim racing and sailboat racing to RallyCross. His next big goal is to step into the world of Stage Rally racing and continue expanding his motorsports experience.

Fun Fact...

Taylor has a truly electrifying story to share: he was struck by lightning. Thankfully, it was not a direct hit and only impacted his foot. It is an experience he can laugh about now, though he is quick to point out it was much less amusing at the moment.
